When I was 3 years old my mom started me out in dance classes. It's funny, I never considered dance as exercise or fitness. It was just fun. In high school, I joined the dance team and also got involved in theatre. I originally went to college (Southeast Missouri State) to be a theatre teacher, and took a few extra curricular dance classes on the side. In these classes I saw a different side of dance that I had never seen before. It could be artistic and creative in addition to the competitive side that I saw growing up. So I switched my major and received a BFA in Performance: Dance.
After college, I got a job working backstage at a theatre company in the costume department, and ended up working in that field for 11 years. Dance and performing took a back seat in my life as my schedule didn't allow for continuing to take dance classes. As I mentioned before, I didn't realize just how much exercise I had been getting for 20 years of my life, and when I stopped dancing, my physical health declined. I tried many many things to become more active before finding Dragonfly.
I started out at Dragonfly as a member in 2018, and I was immediately in love, The small group classes reminded me of dance class, and the accountability kept me going. And then I learned that Dragonfly has such a wonderful and welcoming community of members. It was the answer I'd been looking for.
In 2020, the pandemic shut down the entire theatre industry and I found myself out of a job. I decided to start my own business as a Virtual Assistant and in 2021, I joined the Dragonfly team as their Member Experience and Marketing Manager. I love being able to contribute to and promote this amazing gym that changed my life!
