Congratulations to March Member of the Month, Laura!
Coach Missy says, "Laura has been a member of Dragonfly for over 8 years and I love having her in class! She is consistent in her training despite some pain issues that she has learned to work around over the years. She doesn't give up! Laura is strong, fun, funny, and is usually part of a group of members that keep me on my toes. "
Here's a little more about Laura's journey:
What motivates you to be consistent with your training? My biggest motivator is my physical health. Strength training is a crucial part of maintaining my mobility and my back health. Without training at Dragonfly, I'd be a twisted pretzel of pain. On the days that I don't want to go, I have to remind myself that my body needs it. And as a lady in her early 40s, I also am looking ahead. If I want to enjoy this level of mobility and physical freedom in the next ten or twenty years or thirty years, then I have to be consistently training now. I'm so glad I started when I did!
What separates your experience at Dragonfly from other things you've tried in the past? I have never been a particularly active person. I hated P.E., I was terrible at sports...I was always the kid called in Red Rover because no way was I getting through that barrier. In college, I worked at the campus gym for several years and never once actually exercised there. As an adult, I had a few personal trainers, practiced yoga for several years, tried running 5Ks...and can't say I liked any of it very much. Nothing stuck until I joined Dragonfly. Dragonfly works for me for so many reasons. I don't have to come up with a workout plan and progression myself, which I always found overwhelming. Working out one-on-one with a personal trainer felt like a lot of pressure to do what they said, even if my gut told me it wasn't right for my body. At Dragonfly, I love that I don't have to think too hard, but also can take ownership of my workout. I feel safe and respected, and not judged for "making excuses" when a movement isn't going to work for me. And as an awkward lil' introvert, I love working out with familiar faces and feeling comfortable being myself.
We love when y'all celebrate & share your accomplishments - big & small, inside & outside the gym. Share with us something that you are proud of from the past few weeks or months. Well it was pretty wild timing to learn I was Member of the Month today, because last night I was at a school board meeting being recognized as a Teacher of the Year! It's pretty cool to see hard work actually paying off.
That's amazing Laura!! Congrats! And thank you for being such an awesome member!
Each month Dragonfly coaches nominate members who are standing out, overcoming obstacles, and giving it their all. It’s always a hard choice to decide upon one!
