May Member of the Month

Congratulations to May Member of the Month, Angela!

Coach Jenny says, "Angela is  always ready to work hard and game for trying new things!! Angela challenges herself when it’s time to bump up the intensity. And always asking questions and modifying exercises when needed." Way to go Angela!

What brought you to Dragonfly? I'm in my late 30s and found myself with aching muscles and injuries. My work is mostly in front of a computer, but 5 times a year the nonprofit I work with is "all hands on deck" at our fundraisers and I found myself in pain after lifting boxes and being active outside my desk chair. There had to be a better way! So I decided to try to build muscle to prevent injuries like that. Seeing friends and Tik Toks about women doing strength training was inspiring to me. I asked around and heard about Dragonfly from a co-worker.

What separates your experience at Dragonfly from other gyms/workouts/things you've tried in the past? I really need the accountability. You're my accountabili-buddies! Over the years, I've gone to open gyms and workout classes. As soon as it's inconvenient or hard I will make up an excuse to not go and then feel guilty. But at Dragonfly, I know there's a coach waiting to greet me at the start of the class I committed to going to when I signed up.

I'm not super social at the gym, but Dragonfly creates a comfortable environment among women who show up as themselves and leave a little stronger. I see a lot of the same people and I love the encouraging shout-outs when I'm trying to push through the last reps!

What is something that used to be intimidating at the gym but now you love it and/or how might you encourage others that might be nervous about strength training?

This may be vain, but a big worry about weight lifting was that I'd suddenly find myself super ripped and lose my feminine curves. (So silly!) I'm still curvy but now I stand up straighter, can lift heavy things without hurting myself, and daily back aches are gone.

I'm always nervous about adding weight, but my coaches at Dragonfly encourage me to just try it and often I surprise myself with how much I can lift. It's very empowering.

I also want to add that I really appreciate the small class sizes that allow coaches to give individual assistance and guidance. The team at Dragonfly are so encouraging, kind, and understanding. I'm sure my friends and coworkers are tired of hearing me talk about how Dragonfly is amazing!

Congrats Angela! Thank you for being such a great member! And no way your friends and co-workers are tired of hearing you talk about Dragonfly. ;)

Each month Dragonfly coaches nominate members who are standing out, overcoming obstacles, and giving it their all. It’s always a hard choice to decide upon one!
