What brought you to Dragonfly? I initially joined Dragonfly over two years ago as I was looking for a place to get in shape before my wedding. I wanted somewhere that would not only offer guided training, since I was a complete newbie, but also help keep me accountable. Well I've been married almost 2 years now, and I’ve stuck with Dragonfly (even though I wasn’t always consistent) because Dragonfly has not only really helped me feel stronger and healthier, but also improved my mental health and overall well-being.
Does the Dragonfly community play a part in your gym experience? Absolutely! The community has played a huge role in keeping me motivated and feeling like I belong. I'm naturally a really quiet person and it took me a long time to open up (I'm still working on that, let's be honest). But there have been countless times when I didn’t feel like working out, but just showing up and seeing familiar faces made all the difference. And the check-in emails from Missy also helped a lot haha! But Dragonfly is truly a community, and I feel like I belong and am missed when I'm not there. We support and cheer each other on, and having that sense of camaraderie helps me push through the days when I feel like I can't accomplish anything. I also love how it's a women-only gym and the comfort and familiarity that engenders, creating a space where I feel safe and can focus on the workout.
What is something that used to be intimidating at the gym but now you love it, and/or how might you encourage others who might be nervous? When I first started, I was intimidated by the idea of lifting weights and trying new movements. I was scared I might hurt myself or even just look foolish when I do something wrong. But over time, the coaches—especially Missy—have really helped me gain confidence. They encourage me to try new things (and go get heavier weights), and I now love learning new exercises and challenging myself. I've always walked away feeling accomplished, even if I felt like I had nothing to give at the start. I’d encourage anyone feeling nervous to just show up, even if you feel unprepared or low on energy/motivation. Dragonfly has made me a healthier and more confident person--inside and outside the gym alike.
