July Member of the Month

Congrats to July Member of the Month, Misty!

Coach Missy nominated Misty this month and here’s what she had to say about her…

“Misty rocks! She brings a great attitude and fun energy to any class that she's in. Misty works hard and is eager to make sure she's got her form down! She's been working through a minor injury for a little bit but she modifies as needed and listens to her body. She's not let it sideline her.

We're glad to have you at Dragonfly, Misty. You make 7:15AM classes more fun for sure!”

We asked Misty some questions about her experience at Dragonfly and this is what she had to say:

What separates your experience at Dragonfly from other gyms/workouts/things you've tried in the past?

Dragonfly has many aspects that separate it from other gyms and workout programs. The ones most important to me are the built-in community, the collective workout style, and how the trainers meet me where I am, not where they want me to be.

Connecting with people and building community are very important to me. When I’m at Dragonfly with my Monday and Thursday gym mates, I feel part of a community of women working towards caring for themselves. That self-care is beautiful and contagious; you all are amazing, truly.

Working out collectively feels like I’m part of this asynchronous machine that’s producing

a positive force of energy out into the world. It reminds me of open studio in undergrad when my classmates and I would show up to work on our artworks in the same room, but each one was uniquely our own project. Working towards our individual goals in a collective setting, that’s also what Dragonfly workouts do.

Each day is different, am I right? I appreciate being able to come in and be met where I’m at. I started at Dragonfly with a semi-chronic foot issue, have days that just suck, and other minor injuries along the way. I have always felt that I can tell the coaches that things aren’t 100% and need some alteration. My gym mates have also been encouraging and inspiring me with their own challenges they work through.

What motivates you to be consistent with your training?

All the things mentioned before about Dragonfly are motivations for me. I owe it to myself and my future self to come in and work towards being stronger and more flexible. I also don’t want to throw my money away or pay that late fee. 🙂

Share with us something that you are proud of from the past few weeks or months.

Oh yea! The full Turkish getup with weight was super awesome. I remember barely being able to do half of it and then it just clicked. I also showed some friends how to do it. I feel like that whole move itself is enough to keep me flexible and strong, so when I am 80, I can get up off the ground with ease (fingers crossed). Understanding how to use my hips to swing a kettlebell; it is simple, but key to a proper swing/clean/etc.

Outside the gym I am proud to have finished my website and online shop, hiimmisty.com and be a part of the Tower Grove Tuesday Market selling and sharing my artwork and connecting with the community. I am also excited to have been selected as a one of the contemporary artists to teach at the Contemporary Art Museum STL!

Thanks, Misty! We’re happy you’re here!

Misty was nominated by Coach Missy for Member of the Month! Each month Dragonfly coaches nominate members who are standing out, overcoming obstacles, and giving it their all. It’s always a hard choice to decide upon one!
